Label Material Options
Picking the right material is a key part of creating the label that you want to represent you, your business, and your product. We offer several different options and have provided a brief description of them below. Take a moment to review them and select the one that you think will look best for your product.
Gloss Paper labels have a bright white surface and a shiny photo quality glossy finish. Matte white paper has a bright white surface with a matte finish. Semi-gloss paper offers a nice compromise if you are looking for a medium level shine. A special surface coating is used on each, creating exceptional print quality. These labels are excellent for a wide variety of products and applications including glass, plastics, cardboards, and metals. These labels offer good abrasion resistance and are suitable for incidental water contact.
Gloss White Poly (often know as BOPP) labels are plastic based and have a smooth high gloss surface. The Matte White Poly (BOPP) has a bright white surface with a matte finish. Both BOPP options have a surface coating creating an exceptional print quality. These are excellent for a wide variety of products including glass, plastic, cardboard, and metal. This makes them perfect for applications with curved surfaces. These labels are some of our most highly water and abrasion resistant labels.
Finishing Overview
Our production systems do not require a finishing layer to be applied to protect the ink. However, based on what is in the package (for example: beer, wine, spirtis, oil based products) that you are labeling and how it ships, using a laminate could add additional protection. This added lamination layer can protect your labels if your product spills as they are filled on your production lines or when consumers use your finished product. The lamination can also protect the labels from scuffing when they are shipped from your factory to the retailor or to the end consumer, thereby ensuring your finished product reaches your customers in perfect condition.
The gloss laminate will provide both protection and a clear shine or glossy finish. This is perfect for making your product eye catching and help it stand out on the shelf.
The matte laminate will provide both protection and a sophisticated finsh to your labels providing a distinctive look for your product.
Unwind Options
The unwind direction is an important part of label manufacturing. It allows us to make labels that can be used in your production process. The unwind direction refers to how the labels will come off the roll. There are four basic unwind directions, and they are numbered 1 through 4. If you are applying your labels by hand, you can use what is easist for your own purposes. If you are applying them through a machine application system, the equipment manufacturer can tell you which unwind is required for your equipment. In the images below, the arrow points to the top of the label.
Unwind #1: The top or "head" of the label comes off the roll first.
Unwind #2: The bottom or the "foot" of the label comes off the roll first.
Unwind #3: The right side of the label comes off the roll first.
Unwind #4: The left side of the label comes off the roll first.
